After helping to launch online auction websites in the UK, Germany, France, and Italy, Andy Higgins returned to South Africa and launched bidorbuy in 1999. He had seen that there was a huge opportunity here in South Africa. It wasn’t all plain sailing, however, and the company went through some tough times between the bursting of the dotcom bubble and the growth of broadband access.
That’s when bidorbuy began to boom, and Andy linked up with Jaco Roux, founder of online price comparison engine jump.co.za and invested in Jump. Their shared passion for the potential of the internet led to the start of uAfrica.com. Headed up by Craig Lubbe, bidorbuy worked closely with uAfrica.com to build an integration between the systems and hosted many joint ecommerce events.
Fast forward to 2022, and everything changed. The two companies had come full circle, and now it was the turn of uAfrica.com to invest in bidorbuy. They bought 100% of the shares in bidorbuy and introduced a radical new idea: one company that would singlehandedly transform people’s experience of ecommerce.
That company is Bob Group. Inspired by our shared history of entrepreneurship and overcoming adversity, Bob Group will empower future ecommerce success stories by providing the tools and services that budding online businesses need.
